Use as much pervious paving as possible to reduce runoff and get water into the soil. Irrigation systems should apply water slowly so that it can penetrate the soil without waste. Shade parking areas and patios, either with plants or solar structures. Use plants that thrive with minimal care and water, and don't insist on trimming everything into a ball; let the plants express their nature and you'll reduce green waste and maintenance costs.
